Board of Directors
The Eagle Peak Montessori School Governing Board is responsible for ensuring that the school is run in compliance with its Charter, all applicable state and federal laws, and that the school remains financially viable. The Governing Board may initiate and carry on any program, activity, or may otherwise act in any manner which is not in conflict with or inconsistent with, or preempted by any law and which is not in conflict with the purposes for which Charter Schools are established.
The Governing Board may execute any powers delegated by law to it and shall discharge any duty imposed by law upon it and may delegate to an officer or employee of Eagle Peak Montessori School any of those duties. The Governing Board, however, retains ultimate responsibility over the performance of those powers or duties so delegated. The Governing Board will also serve as advocate for the Charter School Movement and Montessori Education with the MDUSD, the State Board of Education, and others.
The Eagle Peak Montessori Board of Directors meets every third Tuesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted on the agenda. The agendas for all meetings are posted the Friday prior to the meeting.

My son started at Eagle Peak as a 3rd year student the first year the school opened and I have been involved with the school on a consistent basis from the beginning. I have served on the EPMS Board of Directors for over 12 years and am proud to represent Eagle Peak in the capacity of Board President. I have over 25 years of experience in the field of construction and facilities management and currently work at the San Francisco Jazz Center as Facility Operations Manager.
I am an associate professor in the History Department at San Francisco State University. I teach classes in the history of early modern Europe and write books about the relationship between Europe and the wider world in the fourteenth through eighteenth centuries. I’m also involved with university governance and am serving on the Academic Senate. I am a current parent at EPMS, with a daughter in Upper El and a son still in preschool. I also help out in the classroom, giving spelling tests or history lessons, and have been involved with planning for International Day. I love the type of learning environment fostered by Montessori education, and am thrilled to be involved with the EPMS community.
This year will mark my 13th year as Principal of Eagle Peak. Prior to my time at EPMS, I served as Assistant Principal of Alief Montessori Charter School in Houston, Texas, and taught in the public Montessori program in Waco, Texas. All of my teaching and administrative experience has been dedicated to working in public Montessori school environments. I also served as a field consultant for the Houston Montessori Center, observing and evaluating intern teachers at various Montessori schools. I formerly served as chair of the Public Policy Committee for the American Montessori Society and am a part time instructor in the St. Mary’s College Montessori program. For the past five years, I have also worked with the Charter School Development Center as a Team Leader for their Leadership Institute for new charter school administrators.
I earned my undergraduate degree in sociology from Baylor University, and returned to Baylor to earn a Post-Baccalaureate Elementary Education certification. I began my teaching career in the Waco, Texas public school system at J.H. Hines Montessori Magnet for Visual and Performing Arts. I then reconnected with my childhood Montessori roots while training at the Houston Montessori Center, where I received my Montessori Teaching Credential. I earned a Master’s in Educational Administration in 2002 from Baylor University and hold a Principal Certification. When I have time I love to travel, write poetry, read, and spend time with family.
I am the parent of a first year Eagle Peak Montessori student as well as a teacher in the Mount Diablo Unified School District. I have had the joy of teaching high school Art, Math and Yearbook and I am a National Board Certified teacher. I currently serve as a peer coach for first and second year teachers, and am honored to be help Eagle Peak in my capacity as Board Secretary.
Lisa Wiley Woefel
I am a Certified Public Accountant, Certified Management Accountant and hold a Master’s Degree in Finance from Cal State East Bay. I currently work as the Chief Financial Officer for a local medical group, and while I enjoy working in finance, I fulfill my passion to serve youth through my volunteer work. I have served on various non-profit boards, most notably Youth Homes, Inc. I am proud to be part of an organization that offers Montessori education to a diverse population, and am currently serving my second term on the Board as Treasurer. Both my children attend Eagle Peak and have been in Montessori schools since pre-school.
I am a creative director and writer and have worked in the field of multicultural communications and marketing for over 25 years. I have been involved with my daughter’s education from the beginning and have served as a volunteer in a variety of ways, starting in preschool to the present as she begins her fifth year at Eagle Peak. I have been a member of the Auction Committee and most recently assisted with the talent show, as well as helping with on-campus activities and chaperoning excursions. I am honored to lend my skills to the Board of Eagle Peak as a marketing professional to help us reach our goals and assure a bright future for our school. I share a passion for music and playing together with my daughter, and try to carve out time for long bicycle rides whenever I can.
I am a founding teacher of Eagle Peak Montessori School, and prior to having the privilege of helping start EPMS I worked alongside my mother to lay the foundation for private Montessori schools. I currently serve on the Board of Directors of EPMS and teach lower elementary. I hold an M.A. in education and four teaching credentials. I have been an instructor at St. Mary’s College School of Education for the past 15 years and was a past Advisory Board member at the university. I have taught in Montessori schools for the past 20 years, and also assisted in the founding of a Montessori teacher education program. Most recently I have been responsible for helping EPMS adopt the new Common Core standards in order to ease the transition to a new program and ensure there is no compromise in the quality of the education children receive at Eagle Peak.
I am the proud father of three students currently attending Eagle Peak, in AP, Upper El & Lower El. I have been an unabashed technology professional & geek in the Bay Area for over 20 years and currently works as a Sr. Director at a global video game company. I have a long history of volunteer work for the school and currently am a member of both CFEP and the EPMS boards. My faith in this school and its staff is only matched by my unbridled love for the confidence and joy this institution brings the children who attend it.
